In re: Amendments to Rules Regulating The Florida Bar—Miscellaneous
On the Bar's petition, the Florida Supreme Court amended seventeen Rules Regulating The Florida Bar and one bylaw, effective May 15, 2023, declining only a technical change to rule 5-1.1(g)(3) and a proposed 25-basis-point minimum net interest rate in rule 5-1.1(g)(5)(B). The most consequential changes create a new confidentiality exception permitting a lawyer to respond to a former client's internet allegations of criminal conduct, expand the mandatory disclosure rule to include preventing death or substantial bodily harm to anyone (including the client), and tie IOTA account interest rates to indexed benchmark rates.
